PM Surya Ghar Yojana: The central government is rapidly promoting solar energy across the country under the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme aims to install rooftop solar panels in one crore households and provide consumers with up to 300 units of free electricity every month.
Officials have stated that the last date to avail benefits under the scheme is March 2027.
What is PM Surya Ghar Yojana?
The scheme encourages households to adopt solar energy by installing rooftop solar panels, helping consumers significantly reduce electricity bills while promoting clean and renewable energy.
According to Superintending Engineer Indradev Kumar, the initiative is designed to connect more consumers with sustainable energy solutions and provide long-term financial relief on power expenses.
Subsidy Benefits Under the Scheme
The government is offering attractive subsidies for installing solar plants:
- ₹30,000 subsidy for a 1 kW solar system
- ₹60,000 subsidy for a 2 kW system
- Up to ₹78,000 subsidy for a 3 kW system
The subsidy amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account after completion of the required process.
Installation Cost and Savings
The estimated cost of installing rooftop solar panels ranges from ₹80,000 to ₹2 lakh. However, government subsidies significantly reduce the financial burden on consumers.
Electricity generated through solar panels can be used for household consumption. If generation exceeds usage, the extra power can be supplied to the grid, allowing consumers to adjust their electricity bills and even earn additional income.
Online Application Process
The application process has been kept completely online and user-friendly. Interested consumers can register and apply through the official scheme portal.
After applying, approval from the concerned DISCOM is mandatory. Once approved, applicants must install the solar system and upload net meter details and bank account information on the portal.
Loan Facility Available
The government is also offering collateral-free loans for rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW capacity at an interest rate of around 7%, making solar installation more affordable for common citizens.
